The United Kingdom’s advertising regulatory body, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), raised concerns about a BetVictor advertisement on Facebook that featured Barcelona football players Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. The ASA deemed the advertisement unacceptable because it appeared to be overly attractive to young people, a significant violation of British advertising regulations.
Felix Faulkner, an attorney focusing on marketing regulations at the legal practice, Popeleiston Allen, remarked on the judgment, noting that it offers essential clarification on how the ASA determines which athletes fall under these updated regulations.
“This represents the initial decision we’ve encountered involving a player not affiliated with UK clubs, illustrating that the ASA is prepared to implement these guidelines more extensively than the original Advertising Practice Committee (CAP) advice from the previous October implied.”
