The province of British Columbia is establishing a fresh, autonomous entity to oversee gambling activities. This newly formed body, known as the Independent Gaming Control Office (IGCO), will assume the duties currently held by the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GPEB).
The IGCO will be tasked with managing all gambling regulations, encompassing even horse racing. A key focus will be on promoting responsible gaming practices. The IGCO will be headed by a general manager who will provide annual reports to the legislature. This new regulatory body will have the authority to manage its own public communications.
The Minister of Justice, David Eby, stated that the IGCO will safeguard the integrity of gambling within British Columbia. He further emphasized that this shift will contribute to curbing money laundering within the province.
