The gaming industry pays homage to Queen Elizabeth II
Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-ruling sovereign in British history, reigning from February 6, 1952, until her passing.
She passed away at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, and her eldest son has ascended to the throne as King Charles III.
Following the news of her passing, numerous organizations within the UK gaming market have issued tributes to the Queen. The Queen had a profound interest in horse racing, especially breeding thoroughbreds for the sport.
The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) issued a declaration commemorating the Queen’s connection to horse racing, her role as patron of the British Horseracing Board and the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association, and her leadership at Royal Ascot.
“The BHA extends its deepest condolences to the Royal Family and all those affected by this sorrowful news,” said BHA Chair Joe Saumarez Smith. “We are deeply grateful for Her Majesty’s dedication and commitment to horse racing, and her public championing of the sport, which undoubtedly helped to drive its popularity and attract a vast following.”
A great number of individuals in the horse racing community were linked to the Queen through her involvement in horse training and breeding. These individuals must be deeply disheartened at this time.
We extend our sympathies to them and all those associated with the horse racing world on this day of sorrow.
The British Horseracing Authority has also declared that all racing events in the UK will be halted today (September 9th) as a gesture of respect.
The Arena Racing Company (ARC) has also expressed their admiration for the Queen’s enduring connection to horse racing.
ARC Chairman David Thorpe stated: “Her Majesty was a prominent figure in British racing throughout her lifetime, and for the entire nation. We are profoundly saddened by the news of her passing today, but we also express our deepest gratitude for her unwavering support and appreciation of British racing over the years. May she find eternal peace.”
London-based wagering firm William Hill also released a statement: “We are grieved by the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-ruling sovereign in the UK and remained a significant and steadfast figure throughout periods of significant change.”
All of us at Clarion Gaming offer our condolences to the Royal Family and the nation during this time of sorrow.
