The Optimove Gaming Pulse data for June reveals that while sports wagering took a dip after the Champions League final, gambling houses maintained their position throughout the month.

**Optimove Gaming Pulse – June 2019**

The Champions League final in early June caused a decline in average deposit sums and retention rates for the month. But our exclusive examination of the Optimove Gaming Pulse data indicates that casinos have been more consistent.

In June, the average deposit amount for sports wagering decreased by 3% (to €29) compared to the previous month. This is likely due to the conclusion of the Champions League, which concluded on June 1st.

The average number of monthly deposits per player increased by 46% year-over-year in June, but slightly decreased by 2% month-over-month.

The significant year-over-year increase is likely because the 2018 World Cup began in June (the final was in mid-July 2018). It’s probable that more players last year were casual bettors rather than devoted fans.

In June, the average monthly revenue per player increased by 19% year-over-year and remained the same month-over-month.

Conversion rates decreased by 13% year-over-year and by 8% month-over-month, falling to 46%. This signifies that fewer players made their initial deposit after registering.

Retention rates dropped by 11% compared to the previous year, reaching 59%.

Once more, this appears to be a consequence of the Champions League concluding at the start of the month, with no other significant events motivating players to participate. The new retention rate decreased by 17% compared to May, implying that new players (who likely signed up to wager on the Champions League in May) had no incentive to continue playing in June.

Odd-numbered summer months bring not only sunshine and heat waves but also lengthy periods of inactivity, resulting in a decline in retention rates. To counter this, operators should increase their engagement efforts and work to keep their bettors active, utilizing cross-selling to other sports and special deals.

In the casino, average deposit amounts exhibit a very steady trend, although slightly lower month-on-month. Mobile betting rates are at 50%, up 4% year-on-year but down 7% month-on-month. Monthly revenue per player remains steady at 86 euros.

KPI Breakdown: New Retention Rate

The new retention rate is the number of players who made their initial deposit in a month and remained active the following month, divided by the number of players who made their initial deposit in the first month. In other words, it is the number of new players who remained active for two consecutive months.

This KPI reflects the loyalty of first-time depositors, as players who make their initial deposit during major events are more likely to depart after the finals.

Maintaining player interest and activity is a constant struggle for all operators.

For instance, last month, new player retention declined by 17% from the previous month, indicating that a considerable portion of new players who wagered on the Champions League in May did not continue to participate in June.
