A proposal to modify the South Dakota Constitution to permit sports wagering in the state will be forwarded to Governor Kristi Noem for her approval following its passage by the House of Representatives.
The proposal, presented by State Senator Bob Ewing in January as SJR501, was approved by the House with a vote of 36-27 and will be delivered to the governor.
The House endorsed the proposal after the South Dakota Senate voted to pass it on February 11th.
However, even if the proposal is signed by Governor Noem, it will still require a statewide vote. The citizens of South Dakota will cast their ballots on the proposal in the November 2020 election.
